To Be Alone with Me....

"I'd swim across lake Michigan
I'd sell my shoes
I'd give my body to be back again
In the rest of the room

To be alone with you
To be alone with you
To be alone with you
To be alone with you

You gave your body to the lonely
They took your clothes
You gave up a wife and a family
You gave your goals

To be alone with me
To be alone with me
To be alone with me
You went up on a tree

To be alone with me you went up on the tree

I'll never know the man who loved me"

Sufjan Stevens' "To Be Alone with You"

Oh my goodness does that guy have a BANJO behind him? Yes yes... He does indeed.

Hmm... what does this song mean?

Curly, I think you would really like Sufjan's music. He plays a ton of instruments, just like you. Check out Sufjan's song about widows, he wears a cowboy hat and plays the banjo... :)

I take it that this song is talking about Jesus.

"You gave your body to the lonely
They took your clothes
You gave up a wife and a family
You gave your goals"

The first two things happened in the Bible and the last two are things that Jesus could have done, but He didn't. It's not what He came for. If you know what I mean, Christ turned away from every selfish thing so that we could be alone with Him.

Anyway, that's how I read that song.
